Hitachi Zosen Receives Order for Construction and Operation of New Wide-Area Waste Treatment Facility for Kasumidai Welfare Facilities Association

Hitachi Zosen Corporation has received an order for the construction and operation of a new wide-area waste treatment facility for the Kasumidai Welfare Facilities Association (Administrator: Fumihiko Imaizumi, Ishioka Mayor), formed by Ishioka City, Omitama City, Kasumigaura City, and Ibaraki Town in Ibaraki Prefecture.

■Order background
To address the issue of costs required for upgrading public facilities and infrastructures, in recent years Japan has moved to formulate national and prefectural guidelines toward centralizing services and promoting coverage over a wider area. Against this backdrop, the Association began initiatives in fiscal year 2015 to centralize treatment of waste generated in the four member municipalities.

The project will be implemented in a design-build-operate (DBO) scheme. Construction work will be undertaken by a consortium led by Hitachi Zosen, and operation of the completed facility by Hillside Lake Environment Technology Co., Ltd., a special purpose company (SPC) established by the Hitachi Zosen Group, for a period of 20 years.
