[Abstract]

We received an order for the design, construction and installation of the Shaka Bridge superstructure from the Tohoku branch of Japan Highway Public Corporation (name at that time) in May, 2005. We completed the work for them in February, 2007. The bridge has the following characteristics.
1) It is a hybrid rigid frame bridge (2 steel girders with I section, rigidly connected to reinforced concrete piers).
2) In similarly structured hybrid rigid frame bridges, using precast PRC slabs is common. However, in this bridge a more economical cast-in-place PRC slab was used.

This paper reports on the design and construction of the bridge. *PRC slab: Pre-stressed concrete slab that allows for concrete cracks.
